Most of us will have at some point in our life started a fitness programme and quit later on. So why don’t we finish what we start? There are so many distractions all around us. It might be work, family, friends, events, sickness, holidays or even the weather that stop us getting to the gym. Then there are other times we just don’t feel like it, time’s we don’t feel motivated and would rather stay home and watch a movie. I have those days too, days where a workout is the last thing on my mind, and my food choices are left to be desired.

In the end, motivation is different from one person to another, what will keep one person on track wont work for another. I have worked to find the right routine for me, to keep on track and stay determined to succeed. Without that motivation and drive to keep going, we often lose the passion and drive we start out with, and ultimately give up on our goals. So how do you stay motivated day in, day out?

Here are a few ideas to help keep you on track:

Training how you want

There are so many types of training, so many ways to keep fit and healthy. Chances are if you stick to a style of training you simply don’t enjoy, you’ll eventually stop altogether. Try different types of training to find what works for you!

Get a gym buddy

If you feel you need some extra support, get a friend to go to the gym with you. It can make exercise a little more exciting and helps keep you accountable. Just make sure it’s someone that won’t let you off the hook, or go back to bed themselves!

Set small specific goals

Having goals can help keep you focused. It doesn’t have to be a big goal, thinking years ahead. Setting small, immediate goals can help keep you motivated as you progress. Remember: Slow and steady wins the race!

If you feel you need to be held accountable – Get A Personal Trainer

Spare those few nights out a month or skip the morning coffee run. Personal trainers can look at your current routine, check your form,  teach you new things, push you harder, hold you accountable and motivate you to keep going. Your health is worth the investment.

Be prepared

Pack whatever you need to take before your workout. If you have to stay to look for your shoes or water bottle, you may leave late or just give up up completely. Don’t give yourself more excuses! Have your bag packed and ready to go.

Never compare yourself to others!

The bottom line here is that everyone start at a different point, everyone is genetically different, everyone stores fat differently and have their own limitations and weak points. Instead, try to compare yourself to an old version of you, look at how far you’ve come and how much left you have to give.
